Cooking Connection: Taco Bar

A taco bar is a meal of hospitality and inclusion. It is:Customizable – Everyone can create their own meal, meeting different needs and preferences.Affordable & Abundant – It can easily be shared with many people, reinforcing the theme of open-handed generosity.Community-Centered – Like the banquet in Luke 14, it is a meal where everyone is welcome, no matter their status or background.

Recipe: Build-Your-Own Taco Bar

Base Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey (or black beans for a vegetarian option)

  • 1 packet taco seasoning

  • 8-10 small tortillas (corn or flour)

  • 1 cup shredded lettuce

  • 1 cup diced tomatoes

  • 1 cup shredded cheese

  • ½ cup sour cream

  • ½ cup salsa

  • ½ cup guacamole

Optional Additions:

  • Sautéed peppers and onions

  • Black beans or refried beans

  • Fresh cilantro or lime wedges

  • Rice as a side

Instructions:

  1. Cook the meat (or beans) with taco seasoning according to package directions.

  2. Set up the taco bar by arranging all ingredients in separate bowls.

  3. Invite guests to build their own tacos, reflecting Jesus' call to invite and include everyone at the table.

  4. As you eat, reflect on the question: Who might I invite to share a meal with me this week?
